Calton Weavers Commemoration Committee

The Calton Weaver’s Commemoration Committee (CWCC) was established three years ago to raise awareness of Glasgow’s Working Class Martyr’s six of whom were murdered by the Militia in 1787 whilst striking.

This murder took place fifty year’s before the Tolpuddle Martyr’s were transported for the crime of ‘combining’.

As well as hosting an annual commemorative event, the CWCC aims to erect a new memorial and develop a website dedicated to the murdered Weaver’s and their place in the rich working class history of Glasgow.
